Is this image available in flickr? I’d love to embed it in a blogpost. Of course, I’m a librarian, and a poet, and this gets to me. Although, librarianship is a radical profession, and ought to be!
Any librarian who lets personal politics dictate what goes on a bookshelf is betraying a sacred trust.
I agree with you Mike! We have a zero tolerance policy for censorship at the People’s Library. Everything that is donated goes into the stacks, and we’re doing all our structural work as a library here on this blog to keep it open and transparent.
I second that. We accept all donations and points of view. Every idea deserves a level playing field.

Red Stocking Grandma, with all due respect, you need to get outside NY more. There are many, many, many conservative & censorial librarians out there in the United States, and a lot of them are Republicans. Librarians, as a demographic, are no different than any other US demographic, except there are so few people of color & so few disabled workers in the field.
I have to add that my Mom was denied a job working at a public library once when they asked her “Which church do you go to?” and she said “none.”
Librarians have a splendid record as stalwart defenders of freedom of speech and the right to read banned books. I have never met a Republican public librarian in 25 years of working in Long Island libraries.
<3 this, thanks for posting!
