Book Party: DJ Spooky, People’s Library and Origin Magazine!

Clear your calendars on Wednesday, January 11th 2012 because it’s time to dance! DJ Spooky is throwing a party at W.i.P. (work in progress) and asked the People’s Library to come set up a mobile unit so you can take a book or leave a book while you dance. Finally, libraries and nightclubs getting together! 2012 really is the year! For those of you unfamiliar with the acclaimed DJ – DJ Spooky, aka That Subliminal Kid, is a Washington DC-born electronic and experimental hip hop musician whose work is often called by critics or his fans as “illbient” or “trip hop”. He is a turntablist, a producer, a philosopher, and an author. He borrowed his stage name from the character The Subliminal Kid in the novel Nova Express by William S. Burroughs.

The event will also celebrate the launch of a new magazine, Origin Magazine.

W.i.P. (Work in Progress) is located just around the corner from the nightclub Vandam, in the basement. It’s at 34 Vandam St New York, NY 10013 in Soho. It’s a cool, new space. And will be a fun night!

Here’s a link to a google map.

Doors at 10pm. Free.

Speaking of DJ Spooky–have a look at this:

DJ Spooky (Paul Miller) talks about the history of media and thoughts about media in culture. He discusses and demonstrates the unexpected side effects of free speech, law, and copyright while showing the power of remixed art. The future and meaning of remix culture is discussed.

    • Watched in DVD while living in Austin last year. Made me glad I got around to it. An instant classic…that hints at the barrier in a true visual DJing application. #symbiotic #vjdj
